“My work is more about the journey of making the work – not the outcome of what it’s going to look like,” says Monica Lazzari, Ringwood resident and one of Arts Project Australia’s dedicated artists working out of the Northcote studio since 2006. This philosophy is reflected in the captivating artworks featured on a series of billboards sponsored by EastLink, on display until 16 June featuring Monica’s work along with fellow studio artist and Doncaster resident Julian Martin.

Arts Project Australia is an internationally leading visual arts organisation based in Melbourne/Naarm that champions neurodivergent artists and artists with intellectual disability. Through the studio program, exhibition opportunities, and professional development pathways, Arts Project empowers artists to develop their practice and build meaningful careers in the contemporary arts sector.

Both Monica and Julian are widely sought after artists with works held in prominent national and international private and public collections. Monica explains the power of visual art, saying, “I love that sometimes what you can say in a picture, you can’t say in words. It’s how you’re feeling.” As to what makes Arts Project the perfect space for her to create from, she says “It's wonderful here. It’s very accommodating to different abilities. Everyone is practicing doing their own thing but all under one roof.  It’s such an honour to come here and meet all different types of people and be able to give them a voice, and really highlight them. Everybody gets that opportunity here.”
