It's a clean sweep for EastLink

We've taken delivery of a brand new road sweeper vehicle.

EastLink's new road sweeper adds a host of new features compared to the road sweeper it's replacing, including:

• Sweeps a full lane width in one pass.
• Sprays roadside weeds at the same time as sweeping an emergency lane.
• More powerful sweeper vacuum using regenerative airflow.

Underneath the front of the road sweeper there is a high pressure spraybar. This is for use when the road surface needs to be cleaned after a spill incident, or to remove material that is stuck to the road surface before the sweeper passes over.

Rotating gutter brooms are immediately in front of the sweeping head and blower system, which creates a high velocity air column to blow particles and small objects up through the sweeper head and into the extra large dump hopper.

The sweeper head is the full width of the vehicle, and the rotating gutter brooms are extendable to each side of the vehicle to push particles and objects into the path of the sweeper head, so that the road sweeper can clear the width of a traffic lane in a single pass.

The 'Whisper Wheel' fan system features 7% more power, 20% less fuel consumption, and 70% less noise compared to the manufacturer's previous fan model (data published by the manufacturer).

Between the blower system and the rear wheels is a full width magnet bar, to collect any metallic items that have not been removed from the road surface by the blower system.

At the rear of the vehicle are extendable weed sprayers. This road sweeper can spray weeds at the very edge of the roadside at the same time as it's sweeping the emergency lane. Two jobs at once!

The rear of the vehicle hosts a large and powerful vacuum hose, to help clean drainage pits, bridge expansion joints and other hard to reach places.

Behind the cab is the John Deere auxiliary engine, which provides power for all of this equipment.

The road sweeper vehicle is controlled and equipment monitored from this dual cab. When sweeping a left hand emergency lane, the left seat is particularly helpful.
