EastLink CCTV - unusual incidents caught on camera

May 25th, 2018

EXCLUSIVE VIDEOS

EastLink has a network of more than 200 CCTV cameras, all monitored from the 24/7 EastLink control room. EastLink control room operators work in shifts, with at least two operators rostered on duty at all times.

As well as road traffic accidents, broken down and abandoned vehicles, the EastLink control room can detect and manage a wide range of incidents that have a potential impact on safety, including:

  • cyclists where they shouldn't be cycling
  • pedestrians where they shouldn't be, or doing things they shouldn't be doing
  • debris dropped from vehicles
  • even inappropriate vehicles on the EastLink Trail.

If the EastLink control room dispatches an EastLink incident response vehicle to the incident, it will arrive at the scene within 5 minutes on average.

Where appropriate, the EastLink control room will also contact the relevant emergency services.

EastLink is Melbourne's safest freeway. Our team works hard to keep it that way.
